Raise damage of skirmish skill to better account for its slow speed. (Martin) Legendary weapons and armor no longer run the risk of exploding when dispelled. (Gresko) From Draak: Lowered the price of ore a bit to make more sense with the cost of finished ingots. The weight command will now show exact weight and size for carried things, but only give estimates for the weight of objects on the ground. Dread portent will no longer send indicators for NO_CONDITION mobs, or mobs that change into other mobs when near death. (Asclepius) The 'pick lock' skill has been renamed to 'lock picking'. Tweaks to shortid. Flags show earlier, object type and size are omitted. (Shryth) Measure command added, aliased to weight command. Our Mayday mini-event is in full swing! It is open to players of all levels, new and old alike! Can you successfully pilot a mining robot against an unrelenting army of plant aliens? Come and join us for a new and exciting take on Alter Aeon gameplay! Don't wait too long to try out this event, because it will end on Friday, May 15th. Last month we released three new areas: - The Giant's Dream, a level 38 solo area. - Corona Island, a level 43 group 7 area. - The Dragon's Path, a level 40 area. Here are some highlights from the April code updates: - Tweaks and fixes to the compare command last month, including comparisons for spell components and grenades. Compare should no longer be on by default on auction, but we added a 'bid compare' option if you want to see it. We also added 'set shortid', to toggle between longform identification and single-line shortform id. - A new level 17 thief skill was added called 'distract'. While hidden, a thief can divert the attention of a target, making them easier to steal from. - If you know mining, the survey command will can now give some information about local geology and local mineral veins. - Mountain brass now has zapsave as its stat instead of strength. - Sterling silver can now be made into weapons and (not very good) armor. It is average in speed, between silvered steel and doubled silver. - The various steels are now slightly slower in speed to emphasize their distinctness from base metals and mithril alloys. - Adding a rim to a woodcrafted shield will now always increase the AC by least 1. - There is a new wickercraft item: the besom, a one-off wand of remove curse. - We made sneak improve with use in a sane way. It will be fairly infrequent, and works best when avoiding hostile mobs near or higher than your level. In May, our builders will be hard at work constructing their next areas. One example would be The Cerulean Shore, a level 14 zone, and another would be the Sea of Despair, a level 43 group 15 zone. Also in May, we will once again return to working on guild jobs. Much of the infrastructure to support guild-based jobs is already in place, and an Assassins Guild does now exist. We'll be setting up guildmasters soon. We'll soon begin working toward getting this year's Summer Solstice Celebration ready to go. The dates for this event will be announced in the June update. Alter Aeon April 2020 Update

Alter Aeon will be having two mini-events in the near future! - The first will be an Easter-themed quest that will begin on the morning of Friday, April 10th and end on the evening of Monday the 13th. - The second mini-event will begin on May Day, that is to say, Friday, May 1st. It will feature a special area with sci-fi story elements. Highlights from the changelog in March: - The ability to set custom landmarks has been removed from survey and added as a general command, 'set landmark'. - 'Survey' is now a classless skill, and the foundation of a new Orienteering skill group, which includes skills such as climbing, forest navigation, mountaineering and spelunking. - The effectiveness of hide is now slightly altered by terrain and your knowledge of orienteering skills. - Since the 'know territory' skill has been folded into animal lore, it has been replaced by the druid spell 'bloom', a healing spell that allows druids to use seeds and acorns to increase the regeneration of their plant minions. - New leathercrafted item: quirt, a short, fast whip. - New wickercraft item: dreamcatcher, one-off wand of 'featherfall'. - Woodcrafted, leathercrafted and dragonscale armor items no long have a level-based adjective. Those adjectives are now used in with 'craft rename'. The rename routine has also been adjusted, with more variations and unique descriptors for special materials. - The level 38 mage spell, 'blaze' has been implemented. - Added an 'all -force' option for bank deposit and bank withdraw. - The Arkug (plant/tree), Plat (earth), Stal (stone) and Rava (blood) runes can now be channel cast. Arkug, Plat and Stal are more effective the higher level druid you are. Rava causes your spell to do more damage the more injured you are. - Critical spells and skills can be practiced without a teacher. - The Fool's Star will now ascend every April 1st, wreaking havoc across the land as it alters the behavior of various skills and creatures. Updates planned for April: - A new area will be added for Kordan: the Cerulean Shore, a level 14 zone. - Continue updating equipment for the higher level portions of Kordan, and then move onto Archais. - We will soon release the Sea of Despair, a level 43 group 15 zone. - The compare command is getting a major face lift to make it more useful. - Groundwork for another weekly event should get under way and be ready before the Summer Solstice event in June. (Lexie) Event show will display if a weekday event is underway. Note that weekday events do not trigger during seasonal events. Added 'event on' and 'event off'. Added nomelee message to stat and score. Various harvesting skills for blood, bones, teeth, etc. can now target mob corpses by the name of the dead mob. The compare command has gotten an update. Hopefully it will be more useful. I will continue tweaking and improving it over the next few weeks. More tweaks to warrior/thief skill targetting and nomelee. Squashed an odd bug with harvest venom. (Mertag) Bloodletting stab should now be somewhat more effective against ethereal mobs, provided you're wielding a weapon with a damage type that can actually hurt them. Skins, shells and dragonscales now time out to avoid clutter, but can be preserved with the preservation spell or made permanent for a nominal gold expediture using leathercraft preserve. The special adjectives can still show up in restrings. Tweaks to how exp from boons is handled. Fix meele targeting bug. Critical abilities can be practiced without a teacher. (Lokar) Terrain, combined with knowledge of orienteering skills, now has a minor effect on hiding effectiveness. New level 38 mage spell - blaze, a fast-casting, low cost fire spell that works in concert with fireweb. The level 17 druid skill 'know territory' is now the level 17 druid spell 'bloom'. This spell uses gathered seeds and nuts to speed the regeneration of plant-based creatures. The functionality of know territory is largely folded into animal lore, in conjunction with survey. New leathercrafted weapon: quirt (a short, fast whip) Bug with metallurgy weapons not setting special metal qualities fixed. Fix PK bug in static blast. Survey now notes the presence of trails, roads and the elevation of exits. The landmark option has been taken out of survey and made its own command. Use 'set landmark' to set up landmarks. They last a bit longer, but the number you can have at once is still linked to your intelligence. Know territory has been deprecated and will soon be replaced with something more useful. The functionality of know territory has been subsumed into animal lore. Metallurgy, leathercraft and woodcraft now use a unified routine for determining the weight of finished weapons. It should be quite difficult to make weapons too heavy for you to wield, and the range of weapon weights should be wider. From Shadowfax: Make jobgivers recognize forged and crafted items with names that match exactly what they're looking for. (Runner) You should be able to switch skirmish targets with impunity so long as you remain hidden. (Ciella) Your maximum carried reduced antidotes is now based on your thief level and skill knowledge. (Ivey) Revised and added rules to sections 4 and 5. The efficacy of reduced antidotes now scales with thief level. Mobs that are under attack and cannot see a player tank because that player is hidden or otherwise can't be seen by the mob will use special attacks against that target the tank less often, with the expection of any mob specifically designed to circumvent the inability to see the target. Alter Aeon March 2020 Update

We're pleased to announce the dates for our next global event: the Spring Festival 2020! This event will begin on March 20th and end sometime on March 23rd. It will involve hunting down some teleporting mobs and have some special quests to discover and complete. Here is a list of some changes made to the game from last month: - Improvements have been made to the newbie islands to make early gameplay easier, such as adding more animals to make skinning and butchering jobs easier and adding more equipment appropriate for low-level characters. - Questlines have been devised that lead from Dragon Tooth to Ralnoth to help guide players from the final newbie island toward higher level areas on the mainland in an organic manner. - A new daily event was developed for Mondays: the great Snipe Hunt. Daily events, such as the aforementioned snipe hunts and fishing derbies, now grant minor boons for completing them. - Adding silver or sky iron-based studs to leather weapons now gives them lycanthrope bane or nonorm damage, respectively. - The 'undead scourge', 'devil ill' and 'angel ravage' unguents can now be applied to weapons to give them a short-lived bane effect. - Changes to the way battle tactics are constructed will prevent incompatible skills from showing up in combos together. - Adjustments have been made to fame calculations to increase accuracy and screen out fame from areas that are no longer open. Within the next month two new areas will be released: the Sea of Despair, a level 43 group 15 area, and the Giant's Dream, a level 38 solo area. Also in March, we will be making some changes to reduced antidotes so that the maximum number of antidotes you can carry and the efficacy of those antidotes will be tied to your thief level and knowledge of the 'reduce antidote' skill. We will also be introducing a proper Assassins' Guild and begin implementing guild-based jobs. Alter Aeon February 2020 Update

Last month we celebrated Alter Aeon's 25th anniversary! We hope that everyone who was able to participate in the celebratory event had a good time and enjoyed the narrative. Our Valentine's Day event will be getting underway soon. The story behind this event is that there is a migration of mysterious angelic beasts moving from one plane of light to another, and they pass through the world of Alter Aeon during their journey. Log into Alter Aeon on or around Valentine's Day to meet these creatures and see what they're all about. Here are some highlights of last month's updates: - We released the Palace of the Dragon Emperor, Public Halls, a level 41 group 7 area on the continent of Suboria. - ICE type creatures are no longer immune to the damage from the necromancer spells tarrant's spectral hand and spectral claw. They take half magic damage instead. This gives low-level necromancers some firepower against ICE monsters. - Items from the starting zones should no longer show up for jobs. - Most thief and warrior melee skills now use same targeting routines. This reduces code redundancy and also makes sure targeting is more consistent between skills. - Feint no longer works against opponents who cannot see you and lasts a bit longer. Flourish no longer demoralizes opponents who cannot see you. The base damage of flourish was also raised - There have been lots of crafting tweaks, including changes in speed for inoxium and starmetal, the ability for certain shopkeepers to make minor improvements to weapons, and some minor changes to weapon assembling. - The ability to inlay metal into crafted objects has been folded into jewelrysmithing. The inlay metal skill is now the inlay rune skill. This allows druids skilled at jewelrysmithing to attempt to inlay metallic runes into metal items. Since this requires melting down metal at a forge, it has a gold cost in additional to a mana cost. - Using socials on intelligent humanoids and living animals will now cause reactions, mostly them being annoyed at you for doing insulting, intimate or disgusting things to them. This is experimental, however, there is nothing to fear; mobs will never attack due to socials. They will eventually socialize with you again, if you leave them alone for a while. They may also respond favorably to being greeted with a smile or handshake, provided they can see you and you didn't annoy them first. - Several new pieces of eq were made and added them throughout Sloe and Kordan. We also added a few camels and other animals on both Sloe and Kordan for jobs and hump day bonuses. Here are some updates for planned for February: - New continuing questlines from Archais into Ralnoth are under construction, and we are improving Ralnoth itself along the way. - Continued work to improve social interactions with NPCs. - Adding minor boons for participating in events such as humpday and fishing derbies. Another such event is planned: the snipe hunt. - More improvements are planned for all the starting islands. - Guild-related jobs. Alter Aeon server updates for Jan 26, 20 From Draak: Belt buckles should properly add capacity to worn containters. You can powder ores up to 20 pounds instead of 10. Reagent lore is now a classless skill with bottling as a prerequisite. Supply crates now cost 50 credits, down from 100, and should yield better results. Mob socials reactions going online. Animals will react to certain socials that are hostile or annoying. Intelligent humanoids will briefly remember people who annoy them but also respond to friendly gestures. Socials will NOT trigger mob aggressiveness, but they may not want to talk or socialize with you for a short time. You can see if a mob is annoyed with you by looking at them. FYI Draak is setting flags on all socials so they will trigger appropriate behavior. This will also include setting off touch dprocs, so careful caressing and licking stuff. Inlaying metal has been folded into jewelrysmithing. The non-classed level 17 skill 'inlay metal' is now the level 24 druid skill 'inlay rune', which allows runes to be added to metal objects at forges for a small fee. http://bit.ly/38HsaaU

The effects of being feinted will now last a little longer. Flourish should do somewhat more damage when an enemy is not heavily demoralized. Various steal skills restricted on newbie islands for high levels. Added a lower level limit to areas from which object fetch quests draw from, to prevent newbie starter equipment from showing up on Sloe quest givers. (Avilyn) Certain shopkeepers will be given the ability to improve weapons and ammo with the 'buy service ' command. Purchasing this will add damroll (or sometimes hitroll) for a modest fee. Alter Aeon January 2020 Update

This January marks the 25th anniversary of when the game went live to the public, guided by a handful of college students in Fairbanks, Alaska. It has been our pleasure to entertain you all these years. We have come a long way, and we hope to go even further! In honor of this momentous occasion, we will be orchestrating an event to celebrate. This event will consist of a special area with intent to bring a role-playing experience with several possible outcomes. It will be appropriate for players of all levels. The event is set begin on Friday, January 17th and end on Wednesday, January 22nd for the time being, although those dates are not set in stone. Last month we developed functional automatic fishing derbies, which are held at random times every Friday, except during events. It was also arranged that the bragging and showing of equipment now works for all equipment types, including consumables. The 'demon lore' skill is now critical, and the 'demonic tutor' skill has 'demon lore' as the sole prerequisite. This fixes our final exigency conflict, where an important or critical ability had an ability of lesser exigency as a prerequisite. As a special bonus, if you know both 'demon lore' and 'corpsecutter', you now have a chance to get special spellcomps when harvesting from the corpses of demons and angels. Here is a preview of feature additions to the game we plan for next year: - Add music to the dclient and improve the interface to better reflect the player's current status. - Have certain shopkeepers offer simple services such as tailoring or improving weapons. This is not planned to be widespread or extensive. - Add the final planned crafting skills. - Create at least one more bonus class for events, such as Monk or Paladin. - Add social reactions from animals and sentient humanoids. - Implement the 'hunting' skill, which will likely be incorporated as an action-based skill like fishing or mining. - Add hirelings, which would be minions you can hire for gold. - Add random land encounters similar to ocean encounters. - Implement naval combat and naval trade. We've already laid out some groundwork for these. - Raise the level cap to 40. We have plans to release many more areas in 2020 to create content for all different levels, such as: - The Palace of the Dragon Emperor, a level 41 group 7 zone for Suboria. - More islands for Gianasi, a level 43 continent. - Solo and group zones for the Nightmare Plane, a level 43 plane. - Port Crimsonia, a level 42 area, and other areas for Ramanek. - A dream zone for Naginag, a level 38 area. - A trio of areas for Archais called Dentin's Workshop, level 25 zones. Alter Aeon server updates for Jan 02, 20 We've added real-life object timers to deal with server lag due to item hoarding. Right now there's about a dozen items on the 'extreme hoarding' list, and when those are logged in they'll get a six month timer in which they must be used. When the timer expires, the item becomes nosave. It'll take a few months for this to work its way through the system and clean things up, but it's better than just deleting everything up front. We'll be hitting other objects over time as we notice problems, but this should take care of the worst of it. From Draak: Fixed weird dazing bug in color spray. (Sirand) Shored up tailoring parser. You can now catch bigger fish in rivers. Inoxium is now faster than sky iron, paralleling starmetal, which is slower. The 'forge list metal' command now shows relative speeds of metals. The keyword 'smetal' added to forged ingots. Fixed some logical inconsistencies with certain crafted weapons and guards. Use unified targeting routines for most thief and warrior skills for more consistent behavior. (Onunku) Feint no longer works on creatures that can't see you or are mortally wounded. (Lokar) Sea encounters should no longer happen in ports. The bribe skill is now obscure. Added more diversity to the compositions of corpses from different types of mobs. Corpse eaters will be more discerning and only eat fleshly objects. (Morpheus) Creatures of the ICE type are no longer immune to the necromancer spells Tarrant's spectral hand and spectral claw.
