Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Dec 14, 19 From Draak: Sifted through the brew code to isolate a probable bug that was causing lightning flash to be brewable. (Onunku) Amounts needed for gather food jobs lowered, and a cap placed on ammo jobs. If you know demon lore and corpsecutter, the bodies of demons and angels can yield unique spell components. Bane specps should now be effective on equipment worn on hands, feet and as shields with appropriate attacks. Demon lore has been moved to level 13 and made critical. Demonic tutor is now dependent on demon lore. These two changes resolve our final exigency conflict, where an important or critical spell was dependent upon a skill of lesser exigency. It also makes demonic tutor far more accessible for necromancers that don't wish to focus heavily on demonology. http://bit.ly/2LVdX0W

Alter Aeon December 2019 Update

Our fall festival event may have just concluded a few days ago, but our next event is right around the corner! This Winter Solstice event will begin on Saturday, December 21st and will end sometime on Thursday, January 2nd. Expect New Year pk arena mob sets, the EPDS cannons, teleporting mobs and several event areas! Keep an eye on upcoming details using the 'event show' command. Here is a list of notable additions to the game for the month of November: - 'Shellcraft' split off from 'leathercraft' as a fully realized skill. Armor crafted from shells will have higher AC than from leather, and different saving throws than dragonscale armor. If you know shellcraft, you can also craft weapon grips from objects such as ivory, horn and antlers. - Two new brew-only spells were added: 'harden leather' and 'seal leather'. 'Harden leather' adds hitpoints to leather objects, while 'seal leather' adds saving poison. A leather object can only receive one such treatment. - The "metallurgy check" command now shows difficulty for metals, the purity and type of metal yielded from ores and if an item can be used as carbon source for steel-making. When specifically targeting an ore, it will show an estimated yield. - 'Craft label' can now be used on consumable items such as ammo, grenades, spell components, herbs or scrolls, with no profession point cost. - Recently added were supply crates of random forgeable metals and spellcomps will be coming to daily gifts and credit purchases. There will be no exclusive items in these, they will be drawn from existing objects similar to the way shopkeepers fill out their inventories. - Jobs have received many updates to improve them, and more are on the way. Starting in December, automated fishing derbies will be held on Fridays, except during events. We are assembling preliminary framework for fishing with boats. It may not be finished until next year. We will add more random boarder encounters for ships, including some non-hostile ones. Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Nov 24, 19 From Shadowfax: Using the 'jobs find' category parameter will reveal the exactly job type the jobgiver offers, namely, 'jobs find retrieval', 'jobs find hunter', 'jobs find delivery' and 'jobs find gatherer'. (Runner) Some job titles have been updated to be more specific. From Draak: A fishing derby will attempt to crown a runner-up if the winner leaves the game (thus forfeiting the derby). Resolved conflict with shellcraft that was preventing dragonscale armor from working. If you know shellcraft, you can craft certain antlers, horns, ivory and tusks into weapon grips. You can now label consumable items such as ammo, potions and scrolls without using a profession point. Added more keywords to craft label. Fished a bug out of fishing that inverted the relationship between reeling in fish and nibbler interest. To compensate, fishing is now slightly faster. http://bit.ly/37wE5Zf

New heraldry types: patridge, hen, calling bird, milkmaid, lady, lord, piper, drummer New leathercrafted item: armbands Checking an ore will give an approximate yield, and also let you know if there is not enough to smelt. New brew only spells: harden leather and seal leather. Shellcraft split off from leathercraft skill. Harvested shells will have heavier AC than the current version, and different saving throws than dragonscale armor. Fishing derby testing code is in place for some dry runs. Alter Aeon November 2019 Update

The Halloween Havoc event may be over, but our next event is just around the corner! This year's Fall Festival will begin on Wednesday, November 27th, and will end sometime on the morning of Monday, December 2nd. There will be a corn-maze, turkey-themed pk arenas and teleporting mobs to hunt down! Land Ho! A new island has been discovered southeast of the Island of Morjah. This new area, called the Isle of the Dead, is a level 43 group 7 zone for the continent of Gianasi. Code changes from October: - You can now brag and show objects, which displays an abbreviated version of the identify output. Great for showing off loot from tough dungeons or your mastercrafted projects. - The Luam rune can now be channelcast. This binds light to a spell's matrix, causing it to poison demons and vampires, but it does only half damage to angels. - All the major crafts will accept a level argument. You can designate the level you wish the finished object to be, as long as it does not exceed your own. - Added a 'craft description' option, allowing crafters to spend a profession point to give a crafted object a custom long description. - You can add grips to woodcrafted bows and longbows, and leathercrafted whips. - 'Forge check' has been improved so it will show the purity of ores you have and also identify viable carbon sources for steel-making. - Scales can be added to leathercrafted armor to increase its ac and add the effects of the metal. Scale armor will generally not be as protective as its 'forge armor' counterparts, but it can be rune-carved if you know firebrand. - Various tweaks to metallurgy, including more accurate forging costs that treat leftover metal from forging weapons and armor at the same price point as splitting or combining metals, a significant discount. - Seven new job types added: apothecary, wandmaker, clothier, custom retrieval, forager, quartermaster and anointer. Plans for November: - Guild jobs: starting with the Cartographers' Guild. Venture into the wildernesses of Alter Aeon to map an unexplored region. - Fishing derbies: these contests will be held on Fridays, and whoever catches the biggest fish by the end of the derby wins! - Two new areas: the City of Ironheart, a level 37 group 4 zone, and the Tunnels of Gorthic, a level 38 group 10 zone. Alter Aeon server updates for Nov 03, 19 From Shadowfax: Make bonus classes future-compatible with skills. Fix rare bug that was allowing atheist players to accept priest jobs. Quartermaster jobs will no longer accept ammunition with short timers. Fix bug that forced quartermaster jobgivers to only accept arrows, even if designed for a different kind of ammunition. From Draak: Changes to clan dues displays to increase accuracy. Bonus levels exp cost should show up where it belongs. Foraging jobs should now accept more types of foraged food, including seasonal pumpkins and squash. Fixed bug with adding grips to woodcrafted items. http://bit.ly/2r4rU53

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Oct 26, 19 From Draak: Add flags, quality and other information to brag/show object. It should no longer be possible to group rejoin a group leader if that leader is in their storage locker. Add 'kxwt_mastercraft' tag for crafted items. Luam is now a channel cast rune, making elemental spells poisonous for demons and vampires, but doing reduced damage to angels. You can now add grips to leathercrafted whips. You can now use metallurgy to load forged simple weapons such as crafted axes, spears and maces. You can now forge armor scales, which can be added to leathercrafted armor to increase its ac and add effects. The cost of casting excess metal from metallurgy projects should now be the same as splitting the initial ingot. Also shored the up accuracy of the cost calculator. Added 'craft desc' option, to spend a profession point to write a custom long description for a crafted object. Like craft restring, you can only use this on objects that you know how to craft yourself. From Shadowfax: Remove maxload/reboot only header info from mortal identify display. (Shermanator) Job changes: No longer save missionary jobs, since the tracts generated by such jobs do not save either. You can be assigned minister jobs if you actually know the bless spell, not just if you're high enough level cleric to know it. Fishmongers will now accept foraged seafood as part of a job, and thus the fishing skill is no longer required to complete such jobs. The 'where jobs' command will only show jobgivers offering custom jobs that you have not yet completed. (Mertag) Add three new retrieval jobs: apothecary, wandmaker and clothier. Add two new gather jobs: forager and quartermaster. Add one new priest job: anointer. http://bit.ly/2WgWxzO

Alter Aeon server updates for Oct 20, 19 Spell recasting is now suspended when you're at a waypoint. When you leave the waypoint, recasting will automatically restart. From Shadowfax: 'Where priests' will show all non-pantheist priests if you do not worship a god, or it will show only your priests and pantheist priests if you do worship a god. No longer display a priest's patron god using consider. It wasn't correctly identifying pantheist priests, you don't lose favor from killing priests anymore, and consider is spammy enough anyway. Alter Aeon October 2019 Update

As our first order of business: it is my pleasure to announce the dates of this year's Halloween Havoc! This Halloween-themed event is something of an annual tradition and is our biggest and best event of the year. If there is any event on Alter Aeon that you do not want to miss out on, this is it! The event will be for players of all levels, with content for both newcomers and old-timers alike. It will begin sometime on Wednesday, October 30th, and run until the morning of Tuesday, November 5th. Sometime that following week a new island for the continent of Gianasi will be released. Major crafting changes in September include the following: - The cost for splitting and combining metal has been reduced. The cost of smelting has been significantly reduced. - Grips can be added to woodcraft bows. - Nearly a dozen new weapons were added to metallurgy to emphasize differences in speed and damage between the various handle lengths. - A new alloy was added: liver copper. - Hone weapon is now directly dependent on metallurgy instead of forge simple weapon, so that hone weapon and balance weapon do not require you to be able to craft weapons yourself. You must still know forge simple weapon in order to learn customize weapon, however. Job changes include: - Having incomplete jobs save across reboots, except for delivery jobs because that wouldn't make sense with delivery objects not saving on logout anymore. - We added five new 'gather' type jobs: lumberjack, slaughterhouse, fishmonger, ironmonger and skinner. These involve having to bring the jobgiver a certain amount of wood, meat, fish, ore or skins, respectively. - We also added a 'job reject' command, that way you can disable a job that you have no intention of fulfilling so it doesn't keep showing up in your jobs list. Here are some other changes in September: - Sea encounters have a higher chance of occuring, and the cooldown between them has been lowered. - Moondust can now be quite a bit higher level. - Added an option for 'set keep '. KEEP-flagged objects prevents it from being dropped, given away, donated, sold, auctioned, thrown in a fire and otherwise removed from a player's inventory. KEEP supersedes and replaces 'credit buy nosac', as it is completely free and can be toggled on and off objects as desired. - The thief poison brew is now 'basic poison', because it conflicted with 'poison ivy' and 'poison mushroom' in the spell parser. - Help pages now show the relative speed of combative spells and skills. Keep in mind many melee skills can be performed more quickly than the listing with fast weapons and equipment that adds attacks. - The favor command now indicates when you have maximum favor, for better tracking when priest jobs will give you bonus experience. - Your waypoint list will now indicate how much time remains for a temporary waypoint created by a 'hallowed ground' spell. So, here are our plans for October (besides the event): - All the major crafts will be able to accept a level argument, so you can make equipment of any level lower or equal than your own. This will allow a great deal of flexibility when crafting for other characters. - The craft re-stringer will get a few tweaks for more variety. - More sea encounters will be added, including a few more non-combat ones. - We'll be rounding out jobs with just a couple more job types and call it a day. For more information, please see our October update on Youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-aDliALC2PI We also recently had an interview with Draak: coder, world builder and sound designer for Alter Aeon. Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Oct 12, 19 From Draak: You can now show and brag objects, for when you bag some sweet loot or craft a mastercraft object and want to show it off. (Aegis) Metallurgy check will now identify useable sources of carbon for steel-making. You can now designate a level for bonecrafting, lapidary, metallurgy and woodcrafting. If you have a crafting skill at perfect, you cannot craft objects of less than expertly crafted quality. Lapidary now makes equipment based on total levels instead of character primary levels. Using forge check on an ore now gives its purity. Using forge check on your inventory will list the metal, and purity / difficulty for ores or metals, respectively. (Castmaster) http://bit.ly/33qLPcw

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Sep 29, 19 From Draak: Jobs should no longer choose encounter mobs as targets. If any job givers step out of line, let Draak know so he can... discipline them. (Morpheus) Hone weapon is now dependent on metallurgy instead of forge simple weapon. Customize weapon requires forge simple weapon in addition to hone weapon. You can add grips to woodcrafted bows and longbows. (Leoric) Adding rims to woodcrafted shields should now properly add ac when possible. (Ragtime) Help pages will now give relative speeds for skills and spells. This is somewhat experimental, and there may be a few inaccuracies. You can now designate a level when leathercrafting. This is a test - bonecraft, lapidary, metallurgy and woodcraft will follow after we work out the kinks, if any. http://bit.ly/2mT5PVv

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Sep 15, 19 From Draak: New alloy for jewlerymaking: liver copper (copper, gold, silver) New leathercraft weapon: knout (two-handed whip) Fixed bug with 'drop all -force', sorry about that. The KEEP flag will prevent items from being added to campfires and emptied out of a carried container onto the ground. New forged weapons: spontoon, long flail, partisan, swordstaff, tekpi, falx, fauchard, and sovnya. These should allow more granularity when assembling weapons to attain the desire emphasis on speed, damage, etc. Some forged weapon recipes have changed a bit, such as tridents requiring a haft instead of a pole, ranseurs now having a trident head and no guard, and scythe blades being replaced with sickle blades to make scythes. When using coffin to free comrades from magical prisons, the the spell will now grind away at the prison's level on failure instead of being strictly binary. From Shadowfax: The favor command will now indicate when you have maximum favor with your god. (Sirand) Display remaining time for hallowed ground spells on waypoint lists. Job updates: Lumberjack jobs require more wood at higher levels to complete. Ironmonger jobs require less ore, especially at higher levels. They also pay a bit more, too. Add 'reject' option for jobs command. Print time remaining for a job on 'job info' instead of 'job display'. Priest jobs now use display favor instead of real favor to determine whether a player's favor is maxed out and qualifies for extra experience. (Sirand) http://bit.ly/2LQ6EXH

Alter Aeon September 2019 Update

Last month we had the Feast of the Sacrifice event, which went off without a hitch! The event was even extended a couple of days as per popular demand. While we don't have an event planned for September, next month will see our biggest event of the year, Halloween Havoc. Details about this upcoming event will be provided in our next monthly update! In August, we added a lot of code! General changes include: - Additional prompt tags (%%php, %%pmn and %%pmv) for tracking the percentage of one's own hit points, mana and movement, respectively. - We got the Smiths' Guild up and running. You can join at forges in most major settlements. Progression is dependent on how many mastercraft items you forge. The higher rank you have in the Smiths' Guild, the greater discount you get when forging. Joining requires forging just one mastercraft item and nets you a 5% discount! - A new condensed format has been devised for identifying weapons. This should make finding the right weapon for fighting particular enemies easier. Also, obviously terrible weapons will have an ugly JUNK flag show up on identify. - The 'mystic armament' spell now works on flexible weapons of all types. Whip it good! - You can now target a worn body slot with identify. For example, if you want to id the equipment on your feet, you can type 'id feet' Crafting improvements: - Help pages for spells now include an autogenerated line of what consumable items they can be added to, such as brewed potions, tinctures, scribed scrolls and spellstaffs. - Leathercrafted armor will have lower armor class (AC), but a greater chance of adding large amounts of hitpoints and movement. - Added forged studs and spikes on leathercrafted armor now more heavily favor adding damroll, hitroll and attacks to leathercrafted equipment over other stats. The type of metal used is also more important. - Skinning and butchering should work on much smaller animals now. Don't expect to get much, though. Forging improvements: - Forging mastercrafts should be easier with lower-level characters and less dependent on luck now. - Weapon dierolls have been re-calibrated to land higher and mastercrafted forged armor should gain larger armor class bonuses. - The time for smelting ores has been halved. - All forging costs, including profession point costs for hone weapon, balance weapon, customize weapon and reinforce armor, have been lowered, and this is on top of the discount from the Smiths' Guild. - The speed differences between forged weapons with grips vs. ones with handles (one-handed) and ones with hafts vs. ones with poles (two-handed) should be more pronounced. Job updates: - The job and quest commands are now more intuitive and mirror one another better so that it's easier to learn and use both. As part of this, some new options were added to the job command. - Retrieval jobs will favor targets from the same sector, and will pay more if they choose an item from a different sector than the jobgiver. - Jobs will favor targets from solo areas, and even when they choose from a group area, they will choose targets from lower level areas that the player should be able to handle alone. - Numerous fixes to specific jobs types, such keeping a pilgrimage target within a level range of the player, having the gold required from almoner jobs be more fair and broadening the range of items acceptable for jeweler and seeker jobs. - Jobs will save and load across reboots now! In September, expect even more updates for crafting and jobs! Also, the Assassins' Guild in the works! Elemental enchants will now work with a few other object types. (Mertag) Cost for splitting/ combining metals and smelting ore lowered. New forged weapons: cleaver, trisul (one-handed trident) Unguents should now respect your god's favored composition. Fixed up the logic for scribeable spells a little. Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Aug 24, 19 From Draak: Encounters should now ignore the presence of dancing lights, continual lights and other system mobs. You should be able to skin and butcher animals smaller animals now. Producing mastercrafted items is bit more dependent on skill, and a bit less dependent on luck. You can sometimes gain a profession point when finishing a mastercraft item. Fixed display issue with weapon traits on weapons with damage type 'none'. (Artisan) Confusion is now dependent on feeble mind instead of forgetfulness. (Huntsong) Remove curse is now level 10. Sense life is now level 9. Smelting ore takes half the time. Job changes from Shadowfax: Jewelry retrieval jobs have been given broader specifications so that more objects qualify as jewelry. Retool 'goals' command to show both currently accepted quests and jobs. Add remaining time on job descriptions when displaying in-progress and completed jobs. Mobs that only give hunter jobs are no longer disqualified as targets for delivery, missionary and minister jobs. Delivery jobs now expire upon logging out, and all job-related letters/parcels/tracts are flagged as NOSAVE. This should help prevent the confusion of having deliveries for jobs that have already expired. Job and quest commands now mirror one another much better and are more intuitive. Also, 'nearby' and 'completed' options were added for the job command. Non-newbie retrieval and delivery jobs are now weighted toward choosing targets from the same sector. Jobgivers will still occasionally select targets from other sectors and planes, and such jobs will pay more when completed. Hunter jobs are now weighted toward choosing targets from solo and group 4 areas. Additionally, these jobs now take a target's area group size into account in addition to the its level when judging its worthiness as a hunter target. Hunter jobs and pilgrimages won't choose very high level targets or very high level areas, respectively, until players reach level 38 (raised from level 33). http://bit.ly/2ZtO14s

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Aug 17, 19 Fix bug in 'credit buy boat'. We'll refund the affected players. From Draak: Messages when comparing weapons now specify that they measure the weapon's melee combat damage only. Weapon messages for what mobs are vulnerable or resistant to a weapon's dtype have been condensed. Metallurgy costs lowered a little bit. Fixed bug in mystic armanent that added the magic dtype before checking if existing effects would interfere with the spell. (Lexie) Lower level characters should now have a better chance of making mastercraft items, if their skill level is high enough. More reorganization for weapon info on id/list. Profession point costs for hone weapon, customize weapon, balance weapon and reinforce armor reduced. (Uicli) Fixed bug where shadow cost would get stuck after channel casting with the 'blok' rune. Added %php, %pmn and %pmv tags to the prompt for percentage of hit points, mana and movement, respectively. (Artisan) Smiths' Guild should coming online. You advance in rank by forging mastercraft items. As you go up in rank, you receive a small but growing discount to most forging costs. The identify command can now target objects in specific wear locations. For instance, if you want to identify whatever you're wearing on your feet, 'id feet' will give you the stats for whatever you're wearing on your feet, if anything. (Aven) Level 18 and 22 cleric had very few spells, while the levels below and above them had too many. The following spells have been re-leveled to smooth out these irregularities: Spell 'word of recall' is now cleric level 18, up from 17. Spell 'slow poison' is now cleric level 18, down from 19. Spell 'hold undead' is now cleric level 20, up from 19. Spell 'area refresh' is now cleric level 22, down from 23. http://bit.ly/2Za3Zga

Alter Aeon server updates for Aug 11, 19 From Draak: The check command should be a bit less harsh judging the melee capabilities of warriors and thieves. Terrible weapons will now show a JUNK label when identified or listed. Suboria's sector has been shrunk back to its proper size. Mystic armanent now works on flexible weapons like whips in addition to blunt weapon damage types. The speed differences between forged weapons with grips vs. ones with handles and ones with hafts vs. ones with poles should be more pronounced. Crafted weapons should have better dierolls. Brewonly spell help pages should now indicate that they can be created by brewing potions. Some vendors now buy cooked recipes. Leathercrafted armor will tend to gain much less AC, but can have much stronger bonuses to hitpoints and/or movement. Some will still be blank - these are good for adding spikes, studs or runes to. Forged spikes and studs more heavily favor adding damroll, hitroll and attacks to leathercrafted equipment over other stats. The type of metal used is also more important. From Shadowfax: You must worship a god to do priest tasks, even from pantheist priests. Make amount of gold requested for almoner jobs more reasonable for low level players. Players who are underleveled for the sector they are in will no longer receive pilgrim jobs in that sector. Changes to dread portent and soulsteal: Dread portent will always notify when a creature in the same room is near death. Knowledge of the 'soulsteal' spell is no longer necessary. The threshold where dread portent notifies that a creature is near death is now the same as when the creature is vulnerable to 'soulsteal'. Soulsteal can now be cast as a duration spell, provided one is affected by 'dread portent' at the time of casting. The target's soul will be stolen (or at least try to be) as soon as it becomes weak enough for the spell to work and if the caster is still affected by 'dread portent'. Multiple soulsteals in quick succession now count less sharply against the caster. You will fail less often, but you will still sometimes fail. http://bit.ly/2YYTGzs

Alter Aeon August 2019 Update

We are proud to announce our event for this month, the Feast of the Sacrifice! This event will begin on Monday, August 12th and end on Friday, August 16th. The event will feature special Eid themed quests, and it will be for players of all levels! Important updates in July: - Additional runes have been added to channel casting, ranging from decreasing casting lag to using shadows to do increased damage to angels (which requires shadow mastery). - There have been improvements made to scribing scrolls, so you will be able to scribe a scroll using spellcomps that have an affinity for the spell, not just an affinity for its spellgroup (if that spell can be added to scrolls, of course). - We also added two new spellcomp affinities: shadow and force fields. - Crafting skills now all use a unified system for calculating movement point cost. - Metal constructs made from metal with spell resistance or absorption stats will gain corresponding saving throws. - The Cartographers' Guild is now active. Guild advancement is dependent on explorer points. Higher guild rank allows access to private guildhalls which stock caches of minor but useful supplies. (We now have an answer when newbies ask us, "What are explorer points used for?") - We've made a number of improvements to jobs to have them make more sense, such as keeping newbies within an appropriate level range and locking high level players out the newbie islands entirely. This is in addition to the efficiency updates to stop job construction from lagging the game. - Sea boarder encounters are now active. This means that when you are sailing, strange sea creatures may board your vessel! Some have friendly intentions, but most are hostile. Some encounters only happen during the day or the night, and certain ones may be limited to specific sectors of the world. Upcoming coding and building updates: - Sea border encounters can be built live in the game, so expect more to be steadily added throughout the coming months. - As for guilds, look for an Assassins' Guild to be set up next. - We have plans for a livery skill, based on tailoring, for making decorative items of clothing. This skill should be ready for October and is intended to help players design costumes for Halloween Havoc. - Work continues on the new Nightmare Planes zones and other event areas in preparation for Halloween Havoc. - We've have been working on making sense of all the Ralnoth quests and figuring out a good layout for the aforementioned quests. The goal is to have guide players to appropriate level areas to complete quests. - We plan on adding many more job types, including jobs for the various crafting skills. - We plan on improving the spell metadata readouts, so that spell help pages will have a line at the bottom telling what player crafted items can have them, such as potions, tinctures or druidic spellstaves. Later this month an interview will be conducted with the world builder Draak using the question-and-answer format used previously with Dentin and Morpheus. Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Aug 03, 19 From Draak: New scribing affinities: force, shadow You should now be able to scribe scrolls using spellcomps that have an affinity for the spell, not just spellgroups. Keep in mind that many spells cannot be scribed, just like some cannot be brewed. Spell help pages will now display if they can be brewed, scribed, put on spellstaffs, etc. at the bottom of the page. This required the creation of a new flagging register for spells that was added by hand to each spell entry - please let Draak know if you find any errors or omissions. From Shadowfax: Make minister job construction much more efficient. Fix bug preventing priest tasks from being accepted by priests of certain gods. http://bit.ly/2KfYTuA

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jul 28, 19 From Draak: Changed colors for daze and stun sends. Encounter help page added. Sea boarder encounters are now active. Creatures from the depths of the sea will board vessels from time to time. Most are hostile, but some may have other purposes for seeking out sailing vessels. This is experimental, and has a built-in manual override so Draak can adjust the rate or turn it off altogether if there are issues. From Shadowfax - job changes: All jobs now take sector into consideration. Jobs that originate from the newbie islands should restrict their targets to the island where the jobgiver resides. Jobs from all other sectors should avoid sending players back to the newbie islands (but may choose targets from one another). Priest jobs will award more experience if a player's favor is already maxed out. Almoner jobs are now governed by the gold offset and how much other jobs pay out when determining how much gold is needed to complete them. One should be able to earn this amount of gold by completing about nine to ten other jobs. Retrieval jobs now allow lower loadprob and heavier objects as valid targets, opening up many more possibilities, especially for armor and weapon retrieval jobs. Priests on the newbie islands will now assign seeker tasks. Numerous modifications were made to the code that are mindful of system performance in an effort to reduce lag caused by job construction. More updates are on the way. http://bit.ly/2Ybb2td

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jul 20, 19 From Draak: Shored up blindness routines to prevent rare cases where unintended permanent blindness could happen. (Valkyrie) Rune list now shows what runes do when channel cast. Added a couple more channel cast runes. Modernized guild help pages. Crafts all hooked into a universal function for calculating movement costs. This should, in most cases, reduce movement costs, expect when working with high difficulty materials like certain metals and gems. Metal constructs made with metals with magic absorption or spell resistance will gain spellsave. Metal constructs made with metals with elemental absportion effect will gain corresponding elemental saving throws. (Onunku) http://bit.ly/32GpbwX

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jul 13, 19 From Draak: Add 'cryomancer' to the 'advice' command. Craft quality should now work properly with items that are lower than WELL CRAFTED. Cloak of fear should no longer toggle on if you type 'cloak fear off', as this is clearly not the intent. (Colonel) Added several more runes to channel casting. The rune command will indicate if a rune can be used for channel casting. The Cartographer's Guild should be coming on-line soon. It's directly linked into explorer points. Some guildmasters and rewards are already set up, more will be forthcoming. Lightly armored enemies are more vulnernable to ranged attacks. This shows on the 'consider' command. Also, a few other little tweaks to ranged attacks that should be fun. http://bit.ly/2JEwBIH

Alter Aeon July 2019 Update

The seventh annual Summer Solstice Celebration of Alter Aeon still ongoing! We decided to extend it for another weekend so everybody has a chance to finish the event quests! The summer event will now end the morning of Monday, July 8th. Here's a summary of recent coding updates we did in June: Critical skills for the thief class were rebalanced, meaning that the balancing of all six classes is now complete. Skills and spells have been spread out more evenly, and each class's abilities now require roughly the same number of practices The druidic mooncatcher skill is now fully developed and implemented. Mooncatchers can be filled and then sealed, transforming them into moondust, a spell component with unique properties. Areas can now have a geology type set. Certain minerals are more common in some geologies than others. This should help players find particular minerals more easily. Shopkeepers that randomly restock herbs will only load herbs from the sector they are located. This should help non-druids find certain herbs more easily, especially for jobs. Druid called animals can be fed by giving them preferred foods. This helps them recover from combat. They have strong preferences for certain foods, so while a black bear may eat a wide variety of foodstuffs, a moose will not eat fish, nor will a mountain lion eat fruit. Instead of tripping, called alligators now perform a "death roll" against badly wounded opponents. This attack does a high amount of damage and heals the alligator a little, but it can only be used against creatures near death that are smaller than the alligator. The thief feint skill will now lower and reset cooldown timers for flourish and crippling strike. It is now possible to directly improve the quality of crafted objects with profession points. You must know the skill necessary to craft the item to at least 90% (or excellent). The news command now displays when double exp system events are under way. Here is a list of code changes coming up in July: Sea-based boarders like crawling octopi, giant crabs and hostile merfolk will be up and going. Changes to dread portent and soulsteal to make them interact more smoothly and behave more fairly in groups. Streamlining job processes. Jobs generate a lot of lag, and the solution is to create standing lists of mobs and objects eligible for jobs that updates every day, much in the same way that fame does. Making content from the news command to be visible on the main website. Last month we opened the Valley of Sacerdotes, a level 41 autogroup zone for the plane of Crepuscula. Redferne's Floating Palace and the new Dragon Tooth research center have been finished. Everything has been releveled to level 28 and many new quests have been added to merge it all up together. Players can talk to Gimthen in Dragon Tooth to start it all. Our world builders hope to make several more quests that will aid the transition of players from Archais to the mainland. Furthermore, work has begun in earnest to build the Palace of the Dragon Emperor, which will be a multizone level 41 group 7 autogroup instance in Suboria. Large groups of high level players will be able to test their mettle against the elite soldiery of Suboria, as well as solve puzzles in the catacombs beneath the palace. Work on the palace is expected to continue into late fall or early winter. In other parts of the realm, work continues on the Nightmare Plane solo and group 4 zones, a new island for the continent of Gianasi and a new port city for the continent of Ramanek. The goal is to finish these in time for the Halloween event. Speaking of events, our next event will be for the Feast of the Sacrifice in mid-August.Stay tuned to our Youtube channel for more updates! Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jun 30, 19 From Draak: Fatigue and exhaustion can no longer take you deeply into negative movement. Channel cast strings will now be gagged by spam gcast. (Mathayas) Softened damage from high level traps. You can use metallurgy to load any wooden weapon, increasing its weight and changing its dieroll. Carve mooncatcher can no longer be taught by demonic tutor, and has a proper place to learn it. Mobs that can recharge select wands and staffs will now show what objects and for how much gold on 'list' and 'sell list'. Spruced up strings for wand/staff recharge trades. Mooncatchers can be converted into moondust, a brew component that boosts the level of a brew without altering the outcome of the recipe. This might see some level tweaking as we assess how powerful it is. Added 'craft quality' command. This uses profession points to increase the quality of a crafted object. You must know how to craft the object in order to upgrade it. The point cost goes up sharply for each tier of quality an item is improved, and also increases with level. http://bit.ly/2Xid4aC

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jun 21, 19 From Draak: Lag reduced on crafting skills a little bit. Fixed bug in leathercraft that did not allow a 'blank' composite bonus on non-dragonscale equipment. Warrior skill rebalancing: Tanking is now level 22, down from level 24. Lag and movement cost for crippling strike has somewhat increased. FYI it is still quite a bit faster and less costly than leap attack. New geology type: salty, for highly saline, non-marine environments. New angelic wood: thyine Mage practice rebalancing: Ground is now level 12, up from 10, since it was the same level as shocking grasp. Obscure spell chimes is now level 10, since there were multiple obscure spells at level 11. New mining minerals: selenite, alabaster (both forms of gypsum) and very rare polyhalite and bloedite. These favor salty geology, along with various halide minerals like sylvite. http://bit.ly/31L2SG4

Alter Aeon

Alter Aeon server updates for Jun 08, 19 From Draak: A successful feint will reduce the cooldown timers that lessen the chance of a successful flourish and lower the damage of crippling strike. Added a couple of tips to the bottom of slist. (Duckworthy) You can no longer scribe high level spells onto low level scrolls. Areas can now have different geologies set that affect what minerals are most abundant there. You will see a message about the local geology when you start prospecting. Most druid called animals are gaining the ability to eat food they are given. They will be picky eaters, so don't try feeding apples to a mountain lion or fish to an ape. Mage practice balance changes: Prism is now level 18 instead of level 12. Level 12 spell shield is now critical and dependent on mana shield instead of fly. Dependencies within the force field spelltree have rearranged. Thief practice balance changes: Contortionism is no longer critical. Shadow decoy is now critical. Stealthy movement is now level 22, up from level 21. Shadow bind is now level 15, up from level 14. Brew poison is now level 14, down from level 15. Case is now level 12, down from level 13. Cloak of darkness is now level 13, up from level 12. Backstab is now level 9, up from level 8. Survrey is now level 8, down from level 9. Feint is now level 6, down from level 7. Pickpocket is now level 7, up from level 6. Crippling strike is now level 20 and critical. Shadow strike is now level 28. Necromancer practice balance changes: Consume is now level 17, up from 16. Skeletal warrior is now level 16, down from 17. Cleric practice balance changes: Breath of life is now level 31, up from level 28. (Lokar) http://bit.ly/2EYEcQK

Alter Aeon June 2019 Update

This month we will be conducting our big league summertime event, the Summer Solstice Celebration! This will be the seventh such annual event. It will begin on the day of the summer solstice, Friday, June 21st and end on the evening of July 4th. Like last year, the Puzzlewood Forest will return. We will be presenting a solo version for players of all levels with endless experience level mobs, and a group version with wave after wave of mobs of increasing strength to challenge high level players, just like last year. We'll also be lifting a couple of elements from the 2014 event and the 2016 event for the main story areas, namely the portal dispelling from the former and the point defense of the latter. Players will be presented with instanced battleground zones, with specific missions to accomplish for each one. A special effort was made last month to balance the skills and spells of the various classes. The goal is to even out the amount of practices necessary to gain the critical abilities of each class, giving each class roughly the same number and at regular intervals. In particular, several abilities have been spread out quite a bit to prevent clumping at lower levels. In keeping with this vein, there are no longer any critical abilities beyond level 30, only important, helpful and obscure ones. The theory is that by level 30, your selection of primary class abilities will be heavily influenced by your choices of secondary and tertiary classes. In addition, some spells and skills that are outdated will be receiving improvements, such as 'cure blindness' and 'feint'. So far, the mage, cleric, warrior, necromancer and druid classes have been updated, and the thief class is soon to follow. In June, we have a number of a code updates planned. For example: - Druid called animals will eat food they are given. Most will be finicky eaters, so don't try to feed fish to your wolf or berries to a mountain lion. - Specialized geology will be added to some zones, making them more likely to yield certain classes of minerals. - Update to 'dread portent' and 'soulsteal' spells to make them work together better and be more fair in groups. - Numerous updates to jobs are in the works to make them more efficient and easier for builders to construct. - Random land-based encounters. This is very new and experimental, and if we feel it is not up to standards or not sufficiently stable before the summer event begins, we will delay turning it on. Our latest upcoming area, the Valley of Sacerdotes, a level 41 zone, is near completion and will be released in a week or so. A whole host of new features and sounds has been added to Mush-Z, our comprehensive MUSHClient package designed for the visually impaired. One set of updates in particular focused on giving players the ability to better customize their audio experience. Sample options include: - an add-on making it easier for users to mix and share their soundpacks - partial matching for adjusting volumes on individual and groups of sounds - a toggle for automatic muting and unmuting when switching between windows, panning, vocal, randomization and battle music controls - sneaking steps - reduced sound clobber and more! We also started working on a new Short ID module which will finally let players see the spell levels on objects, and will be preparing for Mush-Z to be upgraded to the latest version of MUSHclient.
