Draak had a fire going last night, so he decided to roast the smaller limonite piece in hot coals for about an hour. This was much more effective at converting it into hematite that the propane torch.

Draak found this broken rock and recognized it as limonite, a hydrated iron oxide ore. He decided to do a little experiment: he roasted the lower half under a gas flame for about 15 minutes. This causes limonite to dehydrate, losing water to become hematite. The reddish coloration of the roasted piece indicates the experiment was at least partially successful. Draak plans on further processing the limonite and hematite into yellow ochre and red ochre, respectively, and using the pigments with charcoal and chalk to make primitive art.

Alter Aeon August 2023 Update

Happy August, everybody! Alter Aeon will be having a weekend game event later this month, beginning on Friday the 18th and ending around noon the following Monday, the 21st. The event quest is designed for both newcomers and old-timers alike, so everyone can enjoy! Here’s a summary of recent updates to the game: A new option added to the “where” command: milk. The cleric spell 'armor' is now named 'armor aegis' to further distinguish it from the ‘consecrate armor’ skill. Aetherstone can now be worked as a lapidary gem and mined as an uncommon mineral on angelic planes. Special attacks like lunge or flourish will now show elemental damage types. To toggle this on, use the command “set edamagestrings”. If you know unarmed combat, your unarmed punches will have more varied strings, ranging from hooks and crosses to palm-strikes, knife-hands and hammerfists. The movement drain from the ‘fatigue’ and ‘exhaustion’ spells can be reduced by high constitution and the ‘vigor’ spell. In addition, the ‘afflict’ curse now interacts with ‘fatigue’ and ‘exhaustion’ as it does with the other inflict spells, increasing their damage. ‘Coldfire’ now follows the same convention as ‘spectral hand’ and ‘spectral claw’, ignoring immunity and doing half normal damage to ice creatures. A lot of smaller spell/skillgroups have been merged into larger ones. The goal is for each class to have 8 non-obscure ability groups. Five classes have been finished with cleric currently the only class that needs further consolidation. Coming soon: A where option to locate tattoo artists. Bloodcasted versions of animated minions, starting with the clay man. The old Hades Castle is being reworked into a new level 45 area called The Realm of Hades, Gates and Elysian Fields, which will be accessed from the City of Fonts when completed. Additional Hades Castle are being redesigned into two more areas: the Asphodel Meadow and the Pits of Tartarus. The Asphodel Meadow will be ready for either the Halloween or Thanksgiving event, an the Pits of Tartarus will be completed some time next year. Progress continues on Castle Ket, a level 13 area. With most long descriptions completed all that really remains is designing the main quest for the area. Work continues with the hunting skill. Last month most of the top level parsing for the skill was coded and hopefully alpha testing among builders will begin in the next month or two. The end result is intended to be a mini-game similar to fishing. Additional dclient music tracks, including one for the mirror plane.
